“Them!” Invades Dallas, Texas

Dallas, TX, September 3, 2008: Deep Ellum, Texas prepares for the inaugural Invasion Car Show, Saturday September 6, 2008, featuring traditional, hot rod and kustom cars, pin-up girl Dayna Delux, live music, automotive, and art & handmade goods vendors.

Presented by Them! Car Club’s Texas chapter, The Invasion Car Show begins at 11 a.m. and features pre-1964, traditional, hot rod and kustom cars, all of which are individually-owned. Entries are currently being accepted online at www.TheInvasionCarShow.com, as well as at 10 a.m. the day of the show. Free to spectators, the show’s entry fee is $30, which includes a tee-shirt, discount food & drink wristband and free parking for the day.

Accompanying the family-friendly car show are automotive and handmade arts & crafts vendors, as well as four food vendors from Deep Ellum. Rockabilly bands Pushrod, from Leonard, Texas and Dallas-based The Murgatroyds provide entertainment. Featured pin-up Dayna Delux awards trophies to winning entrants at five p.m. The after-party continues at Lee Harvey’s beginning at six o’clock.

Vendors for Saturday’s show include Dayna Delux, Lucky’s RodnKustom, Scorpion Racing Team, artist Robert Hamilton, accessories company Cherry Canary, Texas Tarts’ vinyl record bracelets, Livin in Sin’s tee shirts, and local restaurants Angry Dog and St. Pete’s Dancing Marlin.

It's Showtime!

...and not in the Beetlejuice sense.

The fall show season began last weekend, and I found myself prepared, but (gratefully) not for this: I've been invited to two other shows this fall/winter season, both Hot Rod/Car Club-sponsored show. It's fantastic!

It's also a huge reminder of what Mom taught me years ago: never leave early. Ever. Invites for new shows are good. Leaving early can sometimes prevent that from happening.

So I'll be selling clips and aprons at no fewer than four shows this season, which, after not having sold since Goober (the youngest kiddo, now four years old and who is pretty danged disabled) came along, is surprisingly cool.

Also learned: just be prepared. The dang Scouts were right. I didn't bring a tent because my spot was inside. Since the event was informal (and poorly publicized; night clubs should invest more in hard openings) a vote was taken to vend outdoors. Note to self: prepare for exactly the opposite of what you have planned.

And bring sunscreen.
